Kristen Nelson is a health law attorney specializing in professional liability defense and employment law. Kristen graduated from DePaul University College of Law, earning a Health Law Certificate along with her law degree.
Kristen has successfully represented clients before the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, the Wisconsin Department of Hearings and Appeals, Wisconsin State Courts and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Kristen has also volunteered with Community Advocates in Milwaukee as a Visiting Legal Fellow, researching and developing solutions which will assist low-income Wisconsinites being affected by the Affordable Care Act.
Previously, Kristen worked for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations in its Health Related Prosecutions unit, prosecuting individual licensees practicing in the healthcare field (including, but not limited to, nurses, nursing home administrators, veterinarians, and pharmacists). Kristen reviewed and analyzed complaints against healthcare professionals to determine the best legal strategy and negotiated and drafted settlement contracts with healthcare professionals and their attorneys. Working for a state regulatory agency trained Kristen to understand the complicated set of laws, rules and regulations that a healthcare professional may be accused of violating. It also gave Kristen a unique perspective on the impact resulting from an administrative investigation, civil lawsuit and/or criminal investigation. Kristen’s goal is to provide you with cost-effective legal assistance; protecting your professional health so you can focus on your patients’ health.
